Class Levels

It is important to choose the right level for where you are in your personal Pilates journey, and not just how generally fit you are, as Pilates is a very specific method of exercise with it’s own terminology, principles, exercises and equipment. If you are new to Pilates, or have limited experience at another studio, we recommend starting with our 3-private session introductory offer (see the Rates page for more info). This is simply a recommendation, not a requirement.

  • BUILD YOUR PILATES PRACTICE

All clients new to Pilates on the Reformer & Tower must start with Level 1.

This beginner-friendly level is designed to set you up for success by focusing on the fundamentals of classical Pilates. With personal guidance in a small group setting, you will be introduced to the basics of the classical Pilates repertoire on the Reformer, Tower, and mat for a balanced practice.

This class has a strong focus on learning proper technique, alignment, and body mechanics and introduces the Pilates principles of control, concentration and centering.

By mastering the foundations, you will build the strength, awareness, skills and confidence needed to progress safely and effectively. Modifications are always provided to meet your unique needs.

    PERFECT FOR:

    • Individuals who are new to Pilates on the equipment

    • Beginners who have come from another studio and have limited experience with classical Pilates

    • Those seeking to build a solid foundation and enhance overall body awareness.

    • Individuals with physical limitations or specific goals who need a safe, slower-paced class.

  • PROGRESS & TRANSITION

You must have prior Pilates experience on the Reformer. Prior Tower/Springboard experience also recommended.

This class builds on the foundations established in Level 1, moves at a moderate pace, and introduces additional classical Pilates exercises.

Your body and mind will be challenged with more complicated movements, and coordinated transitions, and you will begin to learn intermediate exercises.

This level focuses on refining technique, introducing new progressions, and incorporates the Pilates principles of flow, precision and breath.

You will work towards gaining the strength, mobility, and skills to potentially transition into Intermediate level classes down the road—all while emphasizing safety and personalized instruction.

    PERFECT FOR:

    • Individuals who have mastered the Pilates foundations on the Reformer, Tower and mat, and are ready to progress.

    • Those seeking a more dynamic class that bridges foundational work with intermediate challenges.

    • Individuals who want to refine their form, explore transitions, and prepare for Intermediate level Pilates.

  • -STRENGTH, POWER and PRECISION -

This class is designed for clients with extensive classical Pilates experience, excellent form, and the ability to self-correct.

Because we teach the traditional Pilates method, experience with general Reformer fitness and some styles of contemporary Pilates is not sufficient preparation for this level. Students should already be familiar with the classical equipment, spring settings, exercise order, and traditional transitions.

You should recognize and be comfortable performing the full beginner repertoire and many intermediate exercises such as The Hundred, Coordination, Stomach Massage, Pulling Straps, Backstroke, Long Stretch, Down Stretch, Elephant, Knee Stretches, and others. Clients should also be able to set up themselves and their equipment efficiently so the class can maintain its pace.

Intermediate classes challenge your strength, stability, coordination, balance, and control. You will continue building the intermediate repertoire, including overhead work, inversions, and progressions toward advanced exercises.

These sessions emphasize moving with all of the Pilates principles — concentration, control, centering, precision, breath, and flow. Expect quicker transitions, fewer breaks, and minimal explanation of foundational concepts. As your practice deepens, you’ll develop greater stamina, sharper coordination, and a more refined mind-body connection.

    PERFECT FOR:

    • Clients who have mastered all of the beginner and foundational intermediate exercises.

    • Those with ample classical Pilates experience seeking a focused and challenging workout.

    • Individuals with strong balance (i.e., standing on the Reformer) and the ability to safely adapt exercises for their bodies.

    • Clients ready to push their strength, coordination, and movement skills to new levels.
